Thanks to Pantone’s Greenery

Though Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year was met with mixed reactions, you can’t deny that, after a year of muted, pastel colors, Greenery is a lively choice. “A fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore, and renew,” according to Pantone, Greenery is the pop of color I think many of us need as we enter the New Year. Yes, I did liken it to a certain slimy substance brought to popularity by Nickelodeon (and I stand by that), but I also think that makes it more fun, carefree, and youthful (just like the television channel). If this color sticks, it’s great news for peridot: A gemstone that garners mixed reviews in its own right (that green just isn’t for everyone), perhaps seeing more of it—as a result of more designers embracing it—is just what the gem needs to grab the spotlight (and a place in our collective hearts and jewelry boxes). The following brands and designers already have a head start, and I very much look forward to what will undoubtedly be a renaissance for peridot in 2017.
